Founded in 2002, IDMN is a network of independent dance producers, dance managers, project managers and self-producing artists. Now under new leadership, we are seeking to expand IDMN's work in order to better support and develop producers at all stages of their careers so that they can in turn better support independent artists and advocate on behalf of them and the wider independent sector.
At the Fringe and want to meet up with fellow producers and self-producing artists to discuss life at the Fringe and beyond? We've teamed up with Xavier de Sousa and Sally Rose of Producers Gathering to co-host a Producers Gathering event with Lauren Church (from In Company Collective), in partnership with The Sick of the Fringe, Unlimited and ourselves, so please come along and join us.
It will be held at Traverse Theatre on Thursday 24 August from 1 - 3pm; free Bloody Marys will be provided, and possibly jalapeño margaritas too!
Following on from discussions during Edinburgh Fringe 2016, and in London as part of The Sick of the Fringe festival in 2017, these Producers Gathering conversations provide a welcoming chance to meet other producers and artists and to share ideas around working sustainably and accessibility - particularly within the fringe context. There will also be time to reflect on strategies for a successful fringe, and to take some time out to think beyond the fringe.

This isn’t my own list of Edinburgh advice, as I’m a relative newbie, but as others have been generously sharing advice and tips, and as there are a number of events happening, I thought I’d gather them into one handy place for people producing, presenting or performing works at the Fringe - or even those who are simply here to watch and support those who are.
As a network of independent producers and artists, IDMN has been very disheartened by Arts Council England's (ACE's) decision to remove three regional dance agencies - Greenwich Dance, MDI and Dance Manchester - from their portfolio of regularly-funded organisations. We are concerned about the impact that this decision will have on audiences, participants and professional dance artists alike, especially considering Nicholas Serota's statement in The Stage of 12 July 2017 that "our 2018-22 investment will not lead to a reduction in ... opportunities for artists and audiences"; despite these stated intentions, a reduction in opportunities is exactly what we are seeing across London's capital and the North West, the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.
