Miranda Laurence is a freelance arts project manager with a specialism in dance. Currently based in Reading, her expertise lies in participatory arts and artist development, as well as dance dramaturgy.
Miranda began her dance management career with a focus on education and youth dance, working with Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s education department, Dance Umbrella, Youth Dance England and South East Dance. She has developed expertise in the inclusive dance sector, as Project Manager at DanceXchange in Birmingham, where amongst other projects producing David Toole’s Unlimited International commission for the Cultural Olympiad, in partnership with South African integrated dance company Remix. Through her role with Age UK Oxfordshire curating the Age of Creativity website she has developed her knowledge of arts and health based initiatives across the UK.
In Oxford, she was coordinator for Oxford Dance Forum, shaping and managing an Arts Council-funded programme of professional development for artists in Oxfordshire. Her role as Dance Officer for Oxford City Council (maternity cover post) also involved artist development support for emerging and established artists.
Miranda initiated and runs the ‘Dance and Academia’ project based in Oxford, which brings together dance practitioners and academics with an interest in dance in discussion and debate. She has organised conferences and seminars programmed as part of the Dancin’ Oxford festivals 2009-2015, attended by a range of academics and artists from across the UK.
Currently Miranda works part-time as Arts Development Officer at Cornerstone, for South Oxfordshire District Council. In her freelance work she now concentrates on business development consultation, working with individual dance artists and companies (most recently Anjali Dance Company, Joelle Pappas and Ana Barbour), as well as dance dramaturgy (recently working with Jaivant Patel, Hayley Matthews and Katie Dale-Everett). She is currently supported in her professional development as a dramaturg with funding from Arts Council England using public money through the National Lottery.
Miranda recently completed the Relational Dynamics 1st coaching course and is now an accredited coach with CAW.
She is also a steering group member for the new umbrella dance organisation for Reading, Junction Dance. She was a board member for Hampshire Dance / Dance Up between 2009 and 2013.
