This course aims to help you identify and understand safeguarding concerns, issues and responsibilities when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

By the end of the course you will have explored and have an understanding of:

• The safeguarding issues that you may encounter in workshop, performance and workplace settings.
• The necessity for the prompt and effective reporting of incidents and concerns.
• Relevant legislation.
• DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) requirements.
• How to create and implement a Safeguarding Policy and Procedure for your organisation.

Approach

This course is an informal seminar with plenty of opportunity for questions, discussion and learning from fellow-participants’ experiences.

Target Audience

The course is aimed primarily at those that work with and provide performing arts activities and performances for and with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Trainer

Roger Lang is an experienced general manager and administrative director who has worked with a number of leading theatre companies, including Oily Cart which works with very young children and children and young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities, and Spare Tyre which creates participatory work with people aged 60 plus, including those with dementia, and learning disabled adults. He also worked for ITC as its Young People’s Theatre Manager.
